Heating your swimming pool or spa and operating the filter system pump can make a big splash in your energy use. You can take several measures to reduce pool heat loss:

• Keep the pump filters clean and the system operating efficiently.
• A plastic pool cover can lower heating costs as much as 50 percent and reduce water evaporation and chemical costs.
• Run the filter system only 8 to 10 hours a day in summer and 4 to 5 hours in winter.
• Use a programmable clock to schedule a reduced-pumping schedule to run at night during off-peak times when there is less demand on our generating facilities.
